President's Rule (Article 356)
Often invoked during a 'Hung Assembly' or political deadlock, Article 356 allows the Union Government to take direct control of a State if the constitutional machinery fails.
Simply Explained (Ages 10+)
Imagine a school where the teachers (State Gov) can't agree on the rules and classes stop. In this case, the Principal (President) takes over the keys to the school to keep it running until new teachers are picked. This is called President's Rule!
01. The Trigger: Failure of Machinery
According to
Article 356
, the President can issue a proclamation if they are satisfied (based on a report from the Governor
or otherwise) that a situation has arisen where the State Government cannot be carried on in accordance with the Constitution.
