Model Code of Conduct (MCC)
The set of guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to regulate political parties and candidates during elections to ensure a 'Level Playing Field'.
01. What is the MCC?
The MCC is not a law enacted by Parliament but a **consensus** between political parties and the ECI. It comes into force immediately when the ECI announces the election schedule and remains in effect until the results are declared.
Purpose: To prevent the party in power from using government machinery for campaigning and to ensure fair competition.
