NDMA & The Authority
Law/Section: Disaster Management Act, 2005
How Bharat organizes itself against the fury of nature.
Fact: The Prime Minister of Bharat is the ex-officio Chairperson of the NDMA.
- Three-Tier System: The law creates authorities at National (NDMA), State (SDMA), and District (DDMA) levels.
- Mandatory Action: The government MUST have a 'Disaster Management Plan' ready for every district.
- Emergency Powers: During a disaster, the District Magistrate can take over any building or vehicle for rescue work.

Compensation & Ex-Gratia
Law/Section: SDRF / NDRF Guidelines
The state's duty to help you rebuild after a disaster.
Tip: Always get a 'Panchnama' or an official report from the local Revenue Officer (Patwari) to claim compensation.
- Loss of Life: Families of those who die in a disaster are entitled to ex-gratia payment (currently Rs 4 Lakh).
- Property Damage: Financial aid is provided for damaged houses (Kutcha or Pucca) based on the level of destruction.
- Crop Loss: Farmers are entitled to assistance from the SDRF if more than 33% of their crop is destroyed.

Law/Section: National Policy on Disaster Management
Basic dignity must be maintained even in a crisis.
- Right to Rescue: The state has a legal duty to attempt to rescue every citizen trapped in a disaster zone.
- Relief Camps: Right to clean water, food, and basic medical care in government-run relief camps.
- Vulnerable Groups: Special priority must be given to children, women, and the elderly during evacuation and relief.

The Good Samaritan Law
Law/Section: SC Judgment: Savelife Foundation v. UoI
Protecting the heroes who save lives.
- No Harassment: If you help a disaster victim and take them to a hospital, the police or doctors CANNOT force you to stay or give your details.
- Legal Immunity: You are not civilly or criminally liable for any unintentional injury caused while trying to save a person in an emergency.
- No Court Visits: You cannot be forced to attend court or police stations as a witness if you don't want to.
