Student Mode

FAQs
Are the voters in a reserved constituency also limited to SC/ST categories?
No. In a reserved constituency, only candidates belonging to the reserved category (SC or ST) can stand for election. However, all registered voters in that constituency, regardless of their caste, cast their votes to elect the representative.
How is the number of reserved seats determined in a state?
It is proportional. The ratio of reserved seats to the total Lok Sabha seats in a state must be approximately equal to the ratio of the SC/ST population to the total population of that state.
Which census is currently used to determine SC/ST seat reservation?
Under the Explanation to Article 330, the census of 2001 is used. This will remain the standard until the figures of the first census taken after the year 2026 are officially published.
